Amajita midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa says his side have to remain focused on their next U20 Afcon clash against Senegal on Thursday.
Meyiwa played his part in the South Africa U20 national teams 3-1 victory over Cameroon in their first match at the youth championship in Ndola, Zambia on Monday.
The 17-year-old insists that he feels no pressure following the team’s performance against Cameroon, but has urged his side to remain grounded ahead of their next Group B encounter.
‘We are obviously proud, but it doesn’t really change things,’ Meyiwa told the Kaizer Chiefs website.
‘It’s important that we put our performance against Cameroon behind us and shift focus to Thursday’s match against Senegal. One win in a tournament of this magnitude does not mean anything, unless you can take it forward and get out of the group.’
Meyiwa believes his side have prepared well and are ready for the Lions of Teranga in their second match of the Afcon tournament.
‘We don’t fear anyone, but we respect all the teams who have qualified. We are going to try to win our next two matches and go as far as possible,’ he added.
‘We are not concerned what people are saying. We are more concerned about us and what the coach has told us is to remain humble and focus on our next opponents. Tournament football is very tricky and we still have a fight on our hands against Senegal and Sudan, but we are ready for them.
‘If we can get out of the group then we will look at our target again and reassess it as we go along. People will look at our group and say we should get out of it, but we still need to go and win the matches.’
Amajita will take on Senegal next at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in their U20 Afcon Group B clash on Thursday.
Kick-off has been set for 18:00.
