Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes his side did not deserve to lose to Cape Town City, but admitted the way his side conceded was unacceptable.
Chiefs dominated parts of the encounter and created a number of opportunities throughout the game, but could not find a way past Man of the Match Peter Leeuwenburgh in the City goal.
Then, with 11 minutes to play it was Chiefs keeper Virgil Vries who, not for the first time, made a costly error as he fumbled an over-hit Gift Links free kick, allowing Edmilson Dove a simple tap-in to secure the points.
After the match the German coach could not hide his disappointment at the error as he insisted that the result was not a fair reflection of the game.
‘It’s absolutely disappointing,’ he told told SuperSport TV.
‘It’s absolutely unnecessary to come to the end of the game with zero points. Even one point would have been something. I felt the result did not mirror the game we have seen. I can’t really find the right words at this moment for this result.
‘I don’t know how many possibilities have been there to have a clear lead. To lose a game in this fashion is disappointing. We had opportunities, we had them very clearly on the back foot, strategically. We were definitely the much better side. But even if you have good organisation and a good strategy, in the end it has to be implemented and executed by all the players on the pitch. But conceding a goal like this is definitely not acceptable.’
