Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp feels his side were selfish in the final third during their 3-0 victory over Cape Town City at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys moved nine points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Absa Premiership standings through goals from Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic and Eric Mathoho.

The German tactician was delighted to walk away with all three points and secure their second consecutive win after having already played three games in January.

‘I think it was not a game of excellence but a third game in seven days, under this circumstances I think we have showed a certain art of managing this game,’ Middendorp told SuperSport TV post-game.

‘In the right moment to score and make it happen, that there was not a lot of doubt that you feel the opponent would come even close.

‘Of course here and there … let me mention it here … it was a bit of a selfish, everybody wanted to score we have four against three moments; ja, we will discuss it internally. In the end, to get these points out three games, with the start of 2020, I think compliment to each and everybody.’

Middendorp also explained his reasoning for bringing on Happy Mashiane and Dumisani Zuma for Kearyn Baccus and Leonardo Castro immediately after the break.

‘We wanted to overload the left side a little bit, No 30 [Craig Martin] was more or less the third defender, a centre back on this side I wanted to stretch them a little bit into this area. We haven’t really executed it as it should be but some good runs from [Siphosakhe] Ntiya-Ntiya, from Happy in a forward movement,’ he added.

‘So far it was just to look into the heavy legs of Leonardo, a bit of legs of course of Kearyn and you bring two fresh legs and that was a little bit behind.’
