Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has given insight why defender Lorenzo Gordinho had been excluded from the Amakhosi squad in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old was recalled to Chiefs last month following his year-long loan at Bloemfontein Celtic, where he made 30 appearances while scoring one goal in the process.

The Benoni-born defender has since made one appearance for the Glamour Boys, in their 2-1 victory over Bidvest Wits on 9 January.

However, Middendorp has now confirmed that Gordinho broke his arm not long after returning to Naturena, but is working on getting himself back to full match fitness.

‘Lorenzo last played a full match for Bloemfontein Celtic in December. He came to us, but then broke his arm. He is working hard to return to full match fitness,’ Middendorp told his club’s official website.

Kaizer Chiefs will now welcome Highlands Park to the Moses Mabhida Stadium when they square off in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, with kick-off set for 6pm.
