Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says he is not looking at what Mamelodi Sundowns are doing and is instead focusing on taking the title race one game at a time.

Many Chiefs fans may have begun celebrating the title following Mamelodi Sundowns loss to Cape Town City on Monday night, which opened the door for Chiefs to go nine points clear with a win over Bloemfontein Celtic.

Celtic, however, had other ideas and put in a stellar showing condemning Amakhosi to a 3-1 loss.

Now Sundowns have the chance to cut the gap down to three points ahead of the meeting between the two sides next week.

Middendorp though revealed to journalists following his sides loss on Wednesday that he is not worried about Sundowns’ results.

“It’s not a situation for me where, just because another team has not made the points, I was carried away and thought everything is fantastic,” said Middendorp.

“That’s not what it’s about. In this campaign or project that started on August 8 and finishes on September 5 everybody must know that you will see results that are not expected. You have seen results in other games that are not expected. It’s definitely something we have to be alert about and be prepared, but we need to be in a better shape and be prepared for the next game.”

“It’s not like opening a book on page 85 and seeing what will happen, the experiences are different when you play in tournaments. The third week is usually the most critical one,” he explained to the media.

“But nobody is aware about it. These results we have seen in the past match days is not expected, but this is a chance for everybody, every team, to be on top of the game and be successful. I have said before that I am not really watching the competition, we know that we turned the match around against Polokwane City (coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 last weekend). You think you have done it, but this is definitely not the case. We have Stellenbosch next and now we have to handle it.”
