Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp admits it was very difficult for him to process their defeat by Maritzburg United over the weekend.
The Glamour Boys’ four-game unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership ended when they lost 2-1 to Maritzburg at the FNB Stadium.
The defeat has Amakhosi remain at the top of the league standings with 45 points from 20 games, but with their lead now cut to six points.
‘I don’t know, there are other games probably we should have lost but a game like this, to lose it definitely very difficult to process,’ Middendorp told SuperSport TV after the game.
‘First half, from the beginning we were active, we had five or six minutes where two shots, I don’t know, normally with this type of [game] you can repeat it you should play the Premier League in England or whatever.
‘But good, we had these opportunities to make this 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, we had them, we didn’t use them and all of a sudden we’re 2-0 down, it’s something what you really have to eat.’
The German mentor believes that they were undone by ‘individual errors’ against the Team of Choice.
‘We had a Telkom cup game in the semi-final, we brought them [Maritzburg] in the game 1-0, everybody knows, a back pass too short. The second game we brought them back into the game, on the last line, totally unnecessary and today again.
‘I said it before, minimise your things [individual errors], we have done so far not bad, the defence, the rest [of the] defence was good but this was a casual moment just to offer this opportunity, ja, 0-1 down.
‘I said it before, this should not happen and then you’re in a miserable situation, unfortunately, it happens.’
