Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp felt his side should have walked away with maximum points against SuperSport United.

The Glamour Boys managed to collect a point away from home after claiming a hard fought 1-1 draw against United at the Mbombela Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Friday.

The result sees Amakhosi remain in seventh position in the league standings with 36 points, seven points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Middendorp believes his side should have wrapped up the game in the first half, but admits that they lacked composure to convert their chances in the final third.

‘After we scored the equaliser, we should have added another goal or two,’ Middendorp told his club’s official website.

‘We could have done better to win this game, especially because we had several opportunities to score. Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert them.’

The Amakhosi mentor added that he will utilise the Fifa international break to prepare for their upcoming Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Cape Town City at the Mbombela Stadium on 31 March.

‘We want to get closer to the top,’ he added. ‘Teams above us will soon face each other and that could drastically influence positions at the top. We will take it game by game.’

‘Our focus will be on the game against Cape Town City,’ Middendorp said. ‘The next two weeks will allow us some preparation time and we look forward to that encounter.’
