Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes his side should be happy with the progress shown by his new signings.
Amakhosi have made a 100% start to the season as they edged Highlands Park 3-2 in their opener before a tight 1-0 win over Black Leopards at the weekend.
Speaking after the game, which Chiefs struggled to kill off, Middendorp was asked by the media if he anticipated a tough season in front of goal.
‘We put a lot of effort into our defensive work, strategising to make it better, even in the second half against Highlands Park I think we could have scored two or three goals more. And, of course, you would have loved to see,’ responded the German tactician.
With Chiefs bringing in new forwards in Lazarous Kambole and Samir Nurkovic, Middendorp added that they are progressing well but still need time to adapt.
‘We have to be realistic and facing facts is usually very difficult for most people. But if you bring in a lot of new players in key positions, core positions, having to incorporate – we should be happy [with progress]. In key positions we are creating chances and that is part of bringing a team together. At the moment we can keep working on it because we have the three points,’ concluded Middendorp.
Amakhosi are back in action on 24 August against SuperSport United as league action takes a break for the MTN8 over the coming weekend.
