Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has set his sights on reaching the Telkom Knockout Cup final.
The Glamour Boys are set to take on Maritzburg United in the semi-finals of the competition at the Mbombela Stadium on 24 November, following the conclusion of the Fifa international break.
Amakhosi will head into the break in high spirits after claiming a thrilling 3-2 victory over Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium in the Absa Premiership last weekend.
However, Middendorp admits that his side are focused on their next task and will utilise the international break to prepare them for the last-four clash with the Team of Choice.
‘It is a matter of goal-setting. There’s a Telkom Knockout semi-final match coming up. This is the time to set goals for the next target,’ Middendorp told his club’s official website.
‘We are not carried away. We want to reach the final. Already now we’ve started preparing. But, let the players celebrate and rest for the moment and get back to focus.
‘The players know what is at stake – especially the local guys have a role to get the new guys into the groove. The players must help the new players to understand the meaning of the Soweto derby, the meaning of this win and how to handle it.
‘The mood is fantastic, and I think it is really underestimated how much this win means to Chiefs. It is so beautiful to witness the happiness and the mood in the streets.’
Kaizer Chiefs against Maritzburg United kicks off at 3pm.
