Kaizer Chiefs new signing Lebogang Manyama

Cape Town City captain Thamsanqa Mkhize says the Citizens will not show former captain Lebogang Manyama any mercy upon his return to Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Having resumed training at the end of April alongside new signing Mario Booysen, Manyama could be in line to make his official debut for Amakhosi when he comes up against his former club in the Absa Premiership this weekend

The 28-year-old parted ways with City in September 2017 to join Turkish outfit Atiker Konyaspor after captaining the Citizens during the 2016-17 campaign which saw him score 14 goals and six assists in all competitions while subsequently walking away with the Footballer of the Season award at the Premier Soccer League awards ceremony.

Manyama returned to Sout Africa a year later when he completed a move to Amakhosi on a three-year deal following the termination of his contract at Turkish outfit Konyaspor.

However, Mkhize says the Citizens will always show love and affection towards Manyama for what he has done and achieved at the club but insists that his side will not make it easy for him on his homecoming.

‘Definitely, I’m sure it’s going to be special for him because he knows we love him here. He’s done a lot for us, but unfortunately on the day we are opponents, I don’t think it’s going to be easy for him,’ Mkhize said.

When asked about the possibility of their former captain scoring against them, Mkhize said: ‘Never, but I wish him the best of luck.’

Cape Town City will take on Kaizer Chiefs in their mouth-watering Absa Premiership encounter at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday with kick off set for 3pm.
