Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes his side have the capacity to unsettle TS Galaxy when the two sides square off in the DStv Premiership at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Tshwane giants will enter their next DStv Premiership fixture on the back of a narrow 1-0 victory over Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly side in their last Caf Champions League Group A match this past weekend.
Sundowns currently sit at the summit of the league standings with 48 points from 21 games, while the Rockets are placed 14th, having secured 17 points out of 19 matches.
Mngqithi will be looking to widen the gap at the top but is expecting a tough game against the Rockets, who are determined to get out of the danger zone.
“It’s very important that they focus all their attention on the matches that we have to play. As it is now in the league, I think every match of the last four or five games it’s going to be a cup final. Everybody must understand that we have a responsibility to the brand, we have a responsibility to our supporters, the board, the president and the chairman of the club to make sure that we are not just satisfied by just one win and a win where we also believe we were not playing our best football,” Mngqithi told his club’s official website.
“TS Galaxy has improved in leaps and bounds ever since Bordon joined the club, I think they play some enterprising football. We were fortunate to get a friendly during the mid-season preparations just to see what they offer, and we have seen them in the previous matches that they have just played. They have done very well even in the Nedbank Cup, so we are looking at this game very closely.
“We believe that we’ve got the capacity to unsettle them, but we know very well we are not going to be playing pushovers. We are playing a team that is well trained, and a team that plays very interesting football.”
Mamelodi Sundowns do battle with TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 7:30pm.
