Orlando Pirates midfielder Linda Mntambo insists he will remain at the Buccaneers for the upcoming season, despite rumours to the contrary.

Recent media reports suggested that the 30-year-old midfielder will not form part of Pirates’ plans for the 2019-20 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

However, Mntambo has since revealed that he had talks with club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza as well as the technical team regarding his future at the club.

‘I think those were just rumours, but they also got me thinking and I had to speak to the chairman and the coaches to ask what’s happening,’ Mntambo told the media.

‘They have assured me that there are no such talks and that I will be with the team in the coming season. I am hoping to get as much game time as possible and hope I can add something that benefits the team.’

The former Chippa United midfielder added that he is focused on getting more game time in the new season after making 15 appearances across all competitions last campaign under Milutin Sredojevic.

‘I signed a three-year contract here, but that doesn’t mean I have to wait another year until I can play. I think this is a make-or-break season for me,’ he said.

Orlando Pirates will take on Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
