SuperSport United midfielder Aubrey Modiba has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns are interested in him, but he is happy to stay at Matsantsantsa.
Recent reports suggested that the reigning Absa Premiership champions were interested in acquiring the services of the versatile midfielder.
However, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane revealed that their Tshwane rivals were not willing to listen to offers for Modiba and fellow teammate Teboho Mokoena.
Modiba, who is currently sidelined for at least three weeks after sustaining an injury in their opening game against Sundowns, says he will use Sundowns’ interest in him as motivation to improve his performance this season.
‘It shows that I am doing something good if not great,’ Modiba told the media.
‘For a coach who has won big things like the Champions League to say such things about me is good, I appreciate it. His words will help me focus more on the good that I am doing.
‘I can’t comment on that [on SuperSport not willing to sell him] … it’s a good thing to me for a team like Sundowns to be interested in me. But I am happy at SuperSport.
‘We had a chat with Stan, and he told me about the interest from other teams as well. I just told him that I am happy at SuperSport for now.’
Matsantsantsa will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Orlando Pirates on Wednesday before taking a trip to Kaizer Chiefs on 24 August.
‘We can’t complain about the fixtures because it is what it is. We just have to plan accordingly. We play three big teams but they are different because they play differently. They both won their first games and their confidence will be high,’ he concluded.
