Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that youngster Malebogo Modise has been promoted to the Brazilians senior team.
The versatile defender, who was part of the Sundowns academy for six-years, has signed a five-year contract with Sundowns after his impress performances with the MultiChoice Diski Challenge team.
The Mahikeng-born youngster came through the ranks having represented South Africa in the U/17 age group and at the Fifa Under20 World Cup twice and also includes a Bafana Bafana cap in the CHAN tournament.
Modise is currently in camp (Rustenberg) with the rest of the squad and will not be able to play in any of this season’s remaining games once football returns but will be registered for next season.
Meanwhile, Coach Pitso Mosimane praised Modise’s versatility and has described the 21-year-old as a player that can play as a left-back and left-winger with speed.
‘He is young and has height with a quality left foot. He fits the characteristics of our wingbacks as he can attack and defend. He has been part of the junior national team and it is the right time to have him over. We can proudly say we are producing players from our youth system,’ Mosimane told his club’s official website.
Malebogo now follows in the footsteps of other Sundowns youth academy graduates like Keletso Makalgwa, Sphelele Mkhulise, Motjeka Madisha, Abram Ngcobo, Nicholus Lukhubeni, Promise Mkhuma, Harold Majadibodu and Percy Tau.
