SuperSport United midfielder Teboho Mokoena says he will continue to improve his performance to help Matsatsantsa gain success in the future.
The South African U20 midfielder won his maiden Absa Premiership Man of the Match award for his impressive performance during his side’s 1-0 win over Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday.
Since joining the Matsatsantsa first team from the development side, coach Stuart Baxter has showed his faith in the midfielder, and he has been outstanding, with impressive performances in both the Caf Champions League and in the domestic league.
The 20-year-old midfielder also played a pivotal role to help Matsatsantsa clinch the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, while also helping Amajita to qualify for the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Mokoena says he feels honoured to have won the award for the first time, but credited his teammates and technical staff for their contributions in helping him achieve the award.
‘It feels great to be recognised, this indicates that my hard work did not go unnoticed since I played a few matches in the elite league,’ Mokoena told the SuperSport United website.
‘I want to thank my senior players who supported and welcomed me when I joined the first team. Most of all I would like to thank the technical team who did not doubt my ability and gave me a chance.’
Mokoena has so far participated in the CAF tournament, the Nedbank Cup and the league.
The Amajita vice-captain went on to say that he will continue to work hard to improve his performance to replicate his previous success with the MDC side in the senior team, having already participated in the Caf Champions League, Nedbank Cup and the PSL.
‘As long as I’m in the team, I will always double the effort to help our team defend the Nedbank Cup title and to challenge for the championship,’ he concluded.
SuperSport United will now welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the Mbombela Stadium when the two sides go head-to-head in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.
Kick-off has been set for 18:00.
