Orlando Pirates interim coach Rhulani Mokwena insists he can’t speak about the fans, only what his side can do to overturn their poor run of form which has led to some fans calling for his head.
Pirates threw away a two-goal lead in the last 10 minutes against Baroka on Saturday afternoon to see their poor run of results continue under Mokwena.
The young coach stepped in to replace Milutin Sredojevic early on in the season and the team has not been able to live up to the high expectations surrounding the club at the start of the campaign.
The draw with Baroka left the Buccaneers lying in sixth position, a massive 17 points behind league-leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
According to reports, the Pirates bus had to be escorted out of the stadium by police on Saturday as angry fans demanded that Mokwena resign as head coach.
Speaking to the media post-match, Mokwena said he can’t control the fans’ reaction but would rather focus on his team.
‘I don’t control that. I can’t speak about the fans. I speak about what we can do,’ said Mokwena.
‘What we can do is to try our best all the time. The Pirates fans know one thing about us – we give our best for the badge. We fight for the badge.’
