Orlando Pirates coach Rhulani Mokwena admits that Thembinkosi Lorch deserved to be sent off against Polokwane City, adding he can’t condone that sort of behaviour.
The Soweto giants claimed a hard-fought 3-2 win over Rise and Shine in their Absa Premiership clash at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening where – for the third time in four games – the Buccaneers were reduced to 10 men.
The incident occurred when Puleng Tlolane blasted the ball into Lorch after a tackle and the Pirates forward lashed out, after which both players received their marching orders.
Speaking after the encounter, the Pirates coach admitted that Lorch should not have retaliated.
‘I haven’t seen the penalty, to be honest, I will check but I think the red card [on Lorch] is deserved because he is retaliating to a situation where he shouldn’t retaliate. So, I have to check again,’ Mokwena told SuperSport TV.
‘I saw, unfortunately, they hit him with the ball and the emotions got the better of him, unfortunately, but that sort of behaviour can’t be condoned. We’ll speak to him, it’s not right.’
