Orlando Pirates interim coach Rhulani Mokwena refuses to criticise new goalkeeper Joris Delle after the Frenchman conceded eight goals in his first three games with the club.

The former French youth international replaced Wayne Sandilands in the Pirates starting lineup against Chippa United a few weeks ago, and maintained his place in the matches against Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City.

Delle may have only conceded the one goal against the Chilli Boys, but he saw four goals fly past him against Gavin Hunt’s Wits before conceding another three goals against City last weekend.

The former Feyenoord stopper has drawn a lot of cristism from fans and media alike, but Mokwena believes that Delle is still adapting to South African football.

‘Football is not about an individual, if you concede goals it’s about your organisation as well. He is doing his best, adapting to the game in South Africa. We’ve got to do better also as a technical team to prepare him and make sure he adapts a little bit quicker. But he is trying,’ said Mokwena after the draw with City.

‘You will never hear me throw a player under the bus. We do our corrections and we are honest with each other when we analyse – and that’s where we talk, in the four walls. We don’t hold anything back. But in public, about players, you won’t get anything [negative] from me.’
