Orlando Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena believes that his team should be enjoying a better season and looking for more consistency, something every team in the league lacks except Kaizer Chiefs.

Pirates managed to move up to seventh on the league table with the 3-2 victory over Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening to end a three-match winless streak.

The Soweto giants have struggled for consistency the whole season and are yet to pick up back-to-back wins despite playing 12 games.

They do, however, remain just three points off third spot and Mokwena believes that with some consistency Pirates could shoot up the table.

‘We’re looking for more consistency‚’ Mokwena said.

‘I think generally in SA football [there’s no consistency]. I mean if you look at us where we’re standing now – we’re seventh‚ but we’re three points off the third position.

‘We know we can have a better season. We should be having a better season. But the reality also is that I don’t think there’s a consistent team in the PSL at the moment.’

The Sea Robbers have amassed 16 points, with four wins‚ four draws and four loses in 12 league matches this season. They will be looking to end the year on a winning note with their last two games of 2019 against Baroka FC (7 December‚ away) and Black Leopards (21 December‚ home).

Mokwena did admit, though, that their Soweto rivals Chiefs have been setting the bar this season.

‘I don’t see anyone doing four‚ five‚ six games in a row except maybe the team in gold and black [Chiefs]‚’ said Mokwena.

‘But also we can discuss that [Chiefs’ consistency] because you mention the word [benefiting] that I don’t want to mention. Maybe if we also get a little bit of luck on our side we can put together a couple [of games].

‘Things even themselves out in life sometimes …’
