Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has backed Namibia forward Peter Shalulile to rediscover his form and put his scoring woes behind him.
The 28-year-old has already scored 17 goals and claimed four assists in 29 appearances across all competitions for the Brazilians so far this season.
However, Shalulile has only managed to find the back of the net once in 2022 in their opening game of Nedbank Cup when he scored the final goal in their 4-0 victory over Richards Bay at the Richards Bay Sports Stadium on 2 February.
Mokwena believes that it’s only matter of time before he finds the back of the net and get back to his best.
“It’s only a matter of time before Peter scores, we know his qualities, we know what he gives to the team [and] it’s not just about putting the ball into the back of the net, what he gives to the team goes beyond just that final action in and around the box,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“He’s responsible like all our other strikers to help us to start defending from the top, to help us with starting to create those possibilities for penetrative moments and as long as he keeps doing that, then we are content.”
Shalulile will have a chance to end his goal drought when Sundowns come up against Al Ahly in their Caf Champions League Group A encounter at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.
