Percy Tau celebrates his goal with Gaston Sirino

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rulani Mokwena believes South Africa are yet to see the full potential of Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau.

The 23-year-old has been one of Sundowns standout performers this campaign, having already scored nine goals and created a further nine from 24 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Mokwena says he admires Tau’s behaviour on and off the field and he believes that the country is yet to see the Bafana  Bafana forward at his best.

‘He’s shown that he’s got an incredible appetite for football. He’s got huge amounts of humility and respect for the game and opponents,’ Mokwena told FarPost.

‘Over and above the game, he’s shown that he lives a very clean and disciplined life. These are just some of the things that go towards helping your game to improve, because it’s one thing to have top football players, but another thing to have top football players that have good human skills. That’s what the country has in Percy.

‘He’s special. You know, the other day I was sent a video of myself speaking when I was coaching him – it was 2012 or 2013 – and I was taken back, because I still don’t think we have seen the full potential of the boy.

‘You know some of the things that Percy does had they had been done in Europe would make international headlines. You would read it on BBC, CNN, Sky Sports, etc. They are special things and done by a special player,’ he concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns will next welcome SuperSport United to Loftus Versfeld Stadium when the two side’s go head-to-head in a Tshwane derby on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.
