Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena says they are not entirely happy with their win over Al Ahly as they look for an improved performance when they take on TS Galaxy on Wednesday evening.
The Brazilians got one over their rivals Al Ahly after they defeated Pitso Mosimane’s side 1-0 in their Caf Champions League Group A clash at the Cairo International Stadium this past Saturday through a late goal from Thapelo Morena.
Sundowns will now turn their attention to the DStv Premiership when they travel to the Mbombela Stadium to face TS Galaxy on Wednesday in their next league match.
But Mokwena is not dwelling on their recent win in Cairo as he is focused on claiming maximum points in their next two games against TS Galaxy and Maritzburg United.
“We can probably say, a satisfactory trip where we are not entirely happy, we always want to improve, but if you look at it where we went and wanted six points we got only four, if it’s four out of six you can be satisfied and content,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“We had other objectives like to try to put the team together, to try to work a little bit to improve a little bit on the tactical and technical themes in preparing for the two different opponents. We also tried to work on our conditioning, particularly for the players that have not been playing and getting a lot of game time. The facilities also helped players that are returning from injury like Mosa [Lebusa] and Lebohang Maboe.
“It’s an important part of history because we haven’t won in Cairo in the last five outings, so it was the sixth time lucky.
“We hadn’t scored in Cairo, so you kick two buckets with one stone, you can then be in a position to celebrate the little bit of the landmark and the achievement and try to focus on what’s next because we’ve got two very, very important games now – we’ve got TS Galaxy and Maritzburg United, so we need to bring our feet firmly back to the ground,” concluded Mokwena.
Mamelodi Sundowns against TS Galaxy kicks off at 7:30pm in Nelspruit on Wednesday evening.
