Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rulani Mokwena has rebuffed talks of clinching the Absa Premiership title, saying that his side are a ‘work in progress.’

The Soweto giants occupy second spot on the PSL table, four points adrift of table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns and despite their good run of form – Mokwena insists that his side are not focused on the league title.

‘It’s good for SA football to have three big teams in good positions in the league,’ he said at a press-conference on Monday.

‘But at the same time you need to look at the team and see if it reflects the stature of the club. We are building that.

‘We are a smaller horse that is in a competitive stage, so as a smaller horse we need to continue to be fed.

‘We are facing bigger horses that have been growing over a longer period. We are a work in progress.

‘We are also aware that while we are building, we also have a responsibility to our fans who want results.

‘But in all of that, we need to be aware of the process that we are on. This is the bigger picture,’ he concluded.

Pirates meet arch-rivals Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon with kickoff set for 15:30.
