Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare says the arrival of the clubs new signings will bring ‘healthy competition’ within the squad.

The 27-year-old, who enjoyed a successful campaign with Wits, played a crucial role in helping them claim their maiden Absa Premiership title as well as the MTN8 trophy.

Gavin Hunt has added to his squad by securing the services of Daylon Classon, Kobamelo Kodisang, Steven Pienaar, Slavko Damjanovic and Bokang Tlhone.

Monare believes the club’s new signings will bring ‘healthy competition’ as they look to defend their PSL title during the 2017-18 campaign.

‘Competition makes for good players. Healthy competition makes a player compete and do the best of his ability, so it’s good,’ Monare said.

‘Great signings by the club. Good competition, that’s what makes us good players.’

Monare, who played 29 matches for the Clever Boys in all competitions last term, was nominated for the Midfielder of the Season at the PSL Awards on Monday night and said he was pleased that he played a role in the club winning two trophies.

The former Jomo Cosmos midfielder says he was honoured and pleased to have been nominated for the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season, despite not winning the award.

‘Being nominated for Midfielder of the Season was the cherry on top. At the end of the day, my job was done and we won the league and the MTN8, so I’m very happy with that,’ he added.

‘It was a great season, we worked hard as a team and we are happy with what we achieved.’
