The PSL confirmed on Friday that the organisation was charging Kaizer Chiefs for ‘fielding two defaulters’ in a DStv Premiership match against Sekhukhune Unite in December despite the club facing a Covid-19 outbreak at the time of the game.
After not honouring the clashes against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows due to a Covid-19 outbreak, a matter which the club is still disputing with the league, they put together a makeshift side for the clash against Sekhukhune United on 12 December 2021.
In doing so Chiefs named Mduduzi Shabalala and Aden McCarthy as a part of the Amakhosi matchday squad for the encounter due to not having enough first team players available.
The duo were unused substitutes on the day but according to the PSL, Chiefs were in contravention with the league’s rules.
PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu says that both Shabalala and McCarthy were not properly registered for DStv Premiership but for the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC).
Majavu confirmed that the hearing is scheduled for 14 April 2022 at 14:00 where Chiefs will be expected to present the case.
“I hereby confirm that Kaizer Chiefs has been charged for fielding two defaulters, namely, Aden McCarthy and Mduduzi Shabalala, in a match between themselves and Sekhukhune,” said Majavu in a statement.
“These players were not properly registered for purposes of the DStv Premiership league but were registered for purposes of the reserve league; that is the basis of the allegations which they are facing.
“The matter has been enrolled for hearing on the 14th of April 2022 at 14:00. Once the matter is finalised, I will confirm the outcome of the DC,” concluded McCarthy.
