The Premier Soccer League has announced that Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has been named as the Coach of the Month for February 2017.
Mosimane has been handed the award, guiding his side to an impressive unbeaten run in the month of February, which includes the 6-0 thrashing of Orlando Pirates and a 2-0 victory over Bidvest Wits.
The 52-year-old says he is humbled by the award and says he is grateful to everybody who contributed to him receiving this achievement.
‘I would like to thank everyone who has played a role in this. I am humbled,’ Mosimane said.
Mosimane added that he believes the Brazilians are underdogs this campaign and face stiff competition for the Absa Premiership title this season.
‘We are the underdogs, Chiefs have had a good run in the league compared to us. I must tell you that it is a different season this year. It will be a difficult season,’ he added.
‘Any formation is good. We play a 4-4-2 formation consistently. That’s the only one I know.’
The former Bafana Bafana coach believes that Eric Tinkler’s side stands a good chance of winning the Absa Premiership title this season.
‘I fancy Cape Town City FC to win the league. They are well rested, they are only playing in the league,’ Mosimane said.
Mosimane has also revealed that Zimbabwean striker Khama Billiat has returned to training and could be available for selection against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
‘Khama (Billiat) is training with the team again, we will see on Friday if he will be ready for the Chiefs match,’ he concluded.
The Players and Coach of the Month awards were selected by a panel of judges made up of members of the broadcast media and football analysts, and was convened by local coach Farouk Khan.
