Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has rebuffed talks of his team reclaiming the Absa Premiership title, saying that they are focused on winning their games in hand.
Masandawana occupy top spot on the PSL table with 28 points from 13 matches, with two games in hand over the chasing pack.
When asked about his team having already clinched the title, the former Bafana Bafana mentor suggested that such talks are premature.
‘Not yet. Let the trophy stay at Milpark for now. When the time for anybody to claim it comes [we’ll be ready],’ he told reporters.
‘It’s not that time yet. But we are on the road to doing that. We are striving towards that. But we are far away (from being crowned champions). We have to be professional.
‘The lead is good. What’s important is what Percy Tau said. We need to win our games in hand. We need to clear those ones. If we clear them with wins, then it’s okay.
‘We have two games in hand. They are coming in January. What makes me happy, is that if we could score goals here [in the 4-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday] and win convincingly after playing a marathon of games – that looks good. It’s encouraging,’ he concluded.
Sundowns play their last league encounter of 2017 when they come up against Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City outfit on tonight at the Loftus Versveld Stadium with kick-off set for 19:30.
