Pitso Mosimane was not pleased with his Mamelodi Sundowns side, even though they managed to claim all three points against Platinum Stars on Tuesday.
REACTION: Johnson proud despite Sundowns defeat
Sundowns were 1-0 up by the half-time break thanks to a Themba Zwane goal, but could have easily scored more goals in the first 45 minutes. Despite Downs dominating the first half, Stars managed to score an equaliser via Sphamandla Mlilo. But fortunately for Masandawana, Khama Billiat would make it 2-1 late in the game to spare Mosimane’s blushes.
‘Tonight we were very wasteful in the first half. The gods of football were with us – we managed to score,’ Mosimane said after the clash.
The coach believed that the lacklustre performance could be attributed to the CAF Super Cup Final, which Sundowns won on Saturday. The Brazilians beat Congolese outfit TP Mazembe 1-0 to clinch the trophy.
‘To be honest, at half-time I never coached because I was very emotional. I told them they’ve been wasteful and that is not how champions behave. That is the behaviour of the after-effects of winning a cup,’ he added.

Percy Tau was named Man of the Match for the encounter, but the former Bafana Bafana coach was not impressed with the promising youngster’s performance.
‘I know Percy got Man of the Match, but he didn’t play well in the first half in my opinion,’ he said.
‘Anthony [Laffor], I don’t even want to talk about that. Not to say that I’m criticising them. I love them and I praise them. But why should I praise them tonight after this?’
Nevertheless, the Downs coach was optimistic about the result, despite his team not having the best of games.
‘At the end of the day we won the match, so sometimes you play so well and you lose, but we benefitted tonight,’ Mosimane concluded.
Masandawana will next face fellow title contenders Bidvest Wits at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday.
The match will commence at 18:00
