Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has admitted that he can’t get excited yet about going level on points with Orlando Pirates at the top of the table, as he still doesn’t know how many points his side have.
Downs went level on 50 points with Pirates after the 3-2 victory over Chippa United on Tuesday afternoon.
Pirates will, of course, have the chance to go three points clear when they face Maritzburg United on Wednesday evening, but they do know Sundowns are breathing down their necks in the title race.
Mosimane has admitted that he can’t get excited yet about his side’s potential league title triumph, as he still doesn’t know if his side will be docked points for the Wayne Arendse case.
‘I still don’t know how many points I have, and I still don’t know who is going to get the points, and I still don’t know how many points we are going to be deducted,’ Mosimane told SuperSport after the game.
‘So, I’m not excited about that [moving level with Pirates]. It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t mean anything to me personally.
‘I know everybody has a go at me, but somebody has to speak out and that’s me. I know what’s going to happen and will it be the first time, no. So Pitso will talk.’
Mosimane also praised key members of his side, who once again stepped up when needed.
‘He [Sirino] didn’t play very well in the first 20 minutes, he lost balls. But when he is there, you know he is going to deliver a pass and assist. He gave [Hlompho Kekana] Keke the ball to score. He is important player; you can see he is not fresh. We took him out to save him.
‘We saved our important player. As much as we want to win, but you take [Themba Zwane] Mshisihi, [Sibusiso Vilakazi] Vila and Gaston out because they are important players, we need them,’ Mosimane said.
