Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits his side did not play their usual free-flowing football against Polokwane City on Tuesday evening.

The Brazilians cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Rise and Shine to claim their first win of the season courtesy of goals from Ricardo Nascimento and Lebohang Maboe on his full debut.

Mosimane says his side are making progress after claiming all three points at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, but he believes Sundowns will open up a bit more when they take on Golden Arrows in the MTN8 over the weekend.

‘We were coming and going. We didn’t have a free flow as usual but sometimes it’s OK to have the three points and not have the free flow. Hopefully on Saturday we can have a free-flow match. What’s important is to win the match,’ Mosimane told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘We did well. The three-man midfield helped us – Mshishi [Themba Zwane], Ace [Oupa Manyisa] and [Tiyani] Mabunda. Not so much of a great game but we must also give credit to the guys [Polokwane City]; they were threatening, especially in the last 10 minutes of the first half. We’re happy, [to get] three points.

‘Game management was important. These kinds of games when you’re 2-0 up, you don’t have to look like you want to play, you just wait for your chance. Last year here we got zero points, against Chiefs [last season] we lost our home game so it’s progress,’ he concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now turn their attention to the MTN8 when they take on Golden Arrows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
