After lifting their eighth title of the PSL era on Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane revealed that he is targeting further league and Caf Champions League titles with the club.
The Brazilians lifted the Absa Premiership trophy after a 0-0 draw with Bloemfontein Celtic in Bloemfontein, but this has not satisfied Mosimane, who wants to win another 10 Absa Premiership titles and add another Caf Champions League title to their trophy cabinet.
‘Sundowns has to go to 10 titles and put a second star over the badge. We have been consistent for five years, we’re blessed, we’re supported, we have to thank the board, the president Patrice Motsepe and his family for supporting us,’ Mosimane told SuperSport after the game.
‘It has not been easy, we laboured, we earned it. We were forever on the pitch, every three days on the pitch, it doesn’t come any bigger than this. We’re happy.
‘I must also thank my family for supporting me, my wife and also the players’ families for being patient with us.’
Mosimane highlighted the importance of the heavy schedule faced by Downs as a memorable aspect of the season.
‘The resilience from the boys, the hard work fighting to win the league with a heavy programme [is what stands out]. It was not easy, Pirates were chasing us I think they took the best out of us, but 60 points is not bad [although] we could’ve done better,’ concluded the 2016 Caf Coach of the Year.
