Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists the Absa Premiership title was never at risk, despite their heavy fixture list this season.
The Brazilians claimed their eighth league title following their comfortable 3-1 victory over Ajax Cape Town on 28 April when goals by Sibusiso Vilakazi, Ricardo Nascimento and Khama Billiat cancelled out Mosa Lebusa’s opener.
Mosimane believes his side were always going to clinch the PSL title, despite Orlando Pirates proving to be worthy contenders this season.
‘The league was never at risk. We have been at the top of the log for many months and we have experience,’ Mosimane told the media.
‘What may have contributed to the scare was that we were eight points clear and the gap closed, which is good for the league because it creates hype but the title was never at risk.
‘In December, there were so many games. We once played five games in 15 days and we had a good stretch of eight points. In April, we were also playing Caf and the Nedbank Cup.’
The match against Celtic will also provide an opportunity for Percy Tau to become the top goal scorer of the season as he is tied on 11 goals with Polokwane City striker Rodney Ramagalela.
Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Bloemfontein Celtic in their final Absa Premiership encounter at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
