Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane congratulated Bidvest Wits after they clinched the Absa Premiership title and insists that the title was not meant for them to retain.

Masandawana grabbed a last gasp equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Maritzburg United, but it proved in vain as Wits ran out 2-0 victors in their clash against Polokwane City, which saw the Clever Boys seal the title race.

Mosimane conceded defeat in the title race and highlighted the fact that Gavin Hunt’s side deserved to win the league.

‘It [the title] wasn’t meant for us. We have to accept it,’ he said in post-match comments.

‘And you’ve got to congratulate [Bidvest] Wits. They’ve done very well, they deserve the trophy.

‘You know, we’ve got seven titles, so it’s about football, it’s like that.

‘That’s how Barca or Real Madrid will feel in the last match as well, one of them will be feeling like that after the last match [of the La Liga season]. But it’s ok,’ he added.

The former Bafana Bafana mentor praised his side for getting the equaliser, in addition to praising the Masandawana faithful.

‘The second goal [to make it 2-2] was very important for us, to keep us alive for second position for [CAF] Champions League, so it’s ok, you’ve got to accept it.

‘They deserve it, Wits deserve it. They fought. It was never for us, we never really held on to it [the league lead] for more than three days.

‘What makes me most happy is [the fans] – they were singing the whole way. Unbelievable. They understand you can’t win everything,’ he concluded.
