Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists he is not looking at the gap between his side and Kaizer Chiefs at the top of the Absa Premiership, but instead focusing on running his own race with Downs.

The defending Absa Premiership champions slipped further behind Amakhosi on the weekend as Chiefs picked up a massive win over rivals Orlando Pirates while Downs suffered a 3-2 loss at the hands of Golden Arrows.

The results moved Chiefs 10 points clear at the top, although Sundowns have a game in hand on Ernst Middendorp’s men. Mosimane, though, insists he’s not worried about what is going on at other clubs.

‘No, if you focus on other people you are losing the plot. You need to focus on yourself. We know how we win the league,’ Mosimane said.

‘We’ve won the league four times in the last six years; two times we came second, this is not new to us. What we need to focus on is Sundowns.

‘At this point in time we are five points behind our programme. If anybody has got more than five to us, good luck to that person, that means they’ve done very well.

‘So, you can’t be looking at your neighbour that he’s got a new car now you want a new car, you’ve got to focus on yourself.

‘You can talk about ten points but we are five points behind in our programme and we get that programme when we get to 75 points. We want 72 in total, so we are running our own race,’ he added.

‘There are so many things that are happening like the goal today [Denis Onyango blunder]. We don’t have Themba Zwane for the last four games, we don’t have [Gaston] Sirino now in the last two games.

‘Those are things that are part of football, injuries are part of the game, so we are going through that process,’ the former Bafana Bafana coach concluded.
