Ahead of his side’s potential title decider against Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists the title is in Chiefs’ hands – saying Downs are just chasing and Amakhosi have the goals and points.
The Brailians cut the gap at the top of the table to just three points thanks to the 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at Dobsonville on Monday night.
Downs were frustrated for most of the encounter until Themba Zwane popped up with a late winner to seal the three points and spice up the title race.
Mosimane told SuperSport TV post-game that the title is for Chiefs to lose, so the pressure is off his side.
‘The coming game [against Kaizer Chiefs] is not in our favour, nothing is in our hands, the title is on Chiefs to lose, not on us,’ said the Sundowns coach.
‘We’re just chasing, they’ve got the goals, they’ve got the points, they can’t ask for more. I would have swapped my positions with them to be honest. I think [Ernst] Middendorp is in a good position.’
Sundowns claimed their first league win in the bio-bubble at the fourth attempt and Mosimane was grateful for Themba Zwane and Lebohang Maboe combining for the goal.
‘Ja, it’s heavy, it’s tough, it’s not easy, heavy on the players, heavy on us. Ja, we deserve a break, we’ve tried so much, we’ve been fighting and fighting, it just shows when you don’t give up, you keep hitting the door, the hinges will go and the door will open,’ he continued.
‘Thank God, two super subs, Themba Zwane, but I’m happy the ball comes from Lebo [Maboe] because he also has been having stress and pressure, what a pass Lebo provided.
‘It shows that if you keep trying, it’s never late, you keep going, you know. Nothing is in our hands but we’ll fight until the end,’ he continued.
‘To be honest, I think we controlled the game, the risk was minimal tonight, which is very good and very important because we were always not sure whether we’re winning or what. The goals are there, the goals are coming. I think it’s the ninth goal or ten goals we have scored ever since we’ve been back.
‘But the win has not been there but if you keep going, you keep scoring and you fix at the back. We got the goal, the big game we won, tonight was a big game. I wish it came earlier but in life you never know the right time, it’s always the right time, you never know when is the right time.’
