Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung says the club are in discussions with Fifa to find clarity on their transfer ban.
The Soweto giants were handed a one-year transfer ban in February, or two transfer windows – i.e. July/August and January – from the world football governing body over the signing of Madagascan midfielder ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana in July 2018.
Under the ban the Amakhosi won’t able to make a single signing until the 2021-22 campaign, but the club have appealed the matter in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The hearing of their case has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the hearing now only set for 9 September.
With the club continuing to be linked with moves for the likes of Deon Hotto and Thulani Hlatshwayo, Motaung said they are in talks with Fifa over the potential suspension of their transfer ban pending the outcome of their CAS appeal.
‘I don’t want to comment on players’ issues. We’re dealing with Fifa now, they still have to give us a ruling [of the transfer ban],’ Motaung told KickOff.com.
‘For now we’re still in discussions with them to find clarity on that ruling [whether the ban is suspended pending the CAS hearing in September].’
Whether or not Chiefs will be able to sign players for the upcoming season remains to be seen as they await decisions from the various regulatory bodies to see if the ban will be lifted until a final decision is made.
