Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele admits to having mixed emotions after clinching numerous honours at Amakhosi’s annual awards ceremony.

The 27-year-old walked away with the Players’ Player of the Season, the KC Online Player and Fair Play, and also the Player of the Month awards for November and May respectively.

‘It is bittersweet to win an individual award when the team didn’t win any silverware,’ Mphahlele told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

‘However, you can’t take away individual efforts. We worked tirelessly as a team, but individual performances are part and parcel of the game.’

The former Mamelodi Sundowns captain says he is honoured to have walked away with five awards, and he insists that it will motivate him to improve his game ahead of the 2017-18 season.

‘I’m grateful to receive these accolades. These rewards will motivate the rest of the team to work harder going into next season.’

Mphahlele was consistent throughout the season, scoring two goals, providing four assists and also earning himself call-ups to the South African National team.

‘When I came to Chiefs, I knew I had only one choice and that’s to win. I knew I was joining a huge club, with great history and pedigree. With these rewards, I am challenged to work even harder to improve my performances and contribute to the team’s goal of winning trophies next season.’

‘Without my teammates this wouldn’t be possible. I wish to thank the entire Amakhosi family for the support during my first season with the club. I wish the team a good rest during the off-season and look forward to a great season ahead of us,’ Rama concluded.
