Mamelodi Sundowns forward Mothobi Mvala has been doing extra training to take his game to the next level as he looks to contribute to the team’s success this season.

The 27-year-old has improved his game since joining the Brazilians from Highlands Park in 2020 and has been a regular in the squad ever since.

Since making the move to Masandawana, Mvala has managed to find the back of the net three times and assisted a further two goals from 40 appearances across all competitions.

The Theunissen-born attacker insists he is putting in the work to improve on his strengths and weaknesses as he looks to cement his place in the Sundowns starting lineup.

“For me coming to a big club like Mamelodi Sundowns, I knew it was not going to be easy. I had to adjust to how the team plays and that is due to the help I got from the technical team and the players as well,” Mvala told his club’s official website.

“What has helped me the most is doing the right things at the right time. This has helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses, the latter I am always looking to address. I have also been doing some extra work to elevate my game. I have learned to stay away from social media and focus on my game so that I am always focused on the ball.

“I am not a stylish player nor the kind of player who is keen on tricks. I consider myself a very tactical player, as I can defend well.

“One thing I am always working on is my finishing. My teammates and the technical team are fully aware of my incredible shot power and they have constantly created an avenue for me to hone my skills. I hope I would be able to play more games which would increase my chances of scoring more often.”

Over this past weekend, Sundowns did the double over Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League after clinching a 1-0 win at the FNB Stadium, with 2,000 fully vaccinated supporters present for the first time since the Brazilians lifted the MTN 8 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“It was great to play in front of the Yellow Nation, you know having them at the stadium gave us that extra motivation as they have not been able to watch us play. If you remember, the MTN8 final was the last time they were able to watch us play and we gave them something to cheer about.

“Over the weekend, we made them smile yet again and we hope that whenever they are in the stands, we give them every reason to smile. I hope that our exciting supporters will be in the stands on a more regular basis very soon so that they can watch us week in, week out,” concluded Mvala.
