Ajax Cape Town's Tendai Ndoro

Tendai Ndoro and Zama Rambuwane netted on their debuts as Ajax Cape Town came from behind to secure a 3-1 win against Platinum Stars on Friday night, writes MARSHALL GOUTS.

The game got off to a slow start with both sides looking to sniff out each other’s weaknesses. It was the visitors who had the first effort at goal as Vuyo Mere forced Ajax goalkeeper Brandon Petersen into making a fine save from an all-out effort.

Debutant Ndoro almost found the back of the net with minutes to go until the half-time break as he got the better of his marker with a smart turn, but his effort sailed inches wide of the upright.

Roger De Sa’s side deservedly took the lead minutes before the interval when Rambuwane headed home Mere’s ball into the area.

Muhsin Ertugral made the first change of the game when he withdrew Fagrie Lakay for Ndiviwe Mdabuka in the second half. Dikwena responded with a sub of their own as Letsie Koapeng was brought on after 65 minutes.

There was little goalmouth action for large parts of the second half, however, as soon as the clock struck 70 minutes, it was as if Ajax was struck by a lightning bolt the way they upped their tempo in search of the goal.

The home side were duly rewarded three minutes later when Tercious Malepe levelled matters, before Tashreeq Morris gave his side the lead eight minutes later with a thumping finish.

Ndoro put the cherry on top as he netted on debut in the 90th minute to ensure that Ajax move up to 13th position, ending their three game winless streak.

Goals by Pogiso Sanoka, Mohau Mokate, Andrea Filecci and Evans Rusike all got onto the scoresheet as Maritzburg United thumped Bloemfontein Celtic 4-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
