New Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic has revealed that he turned down offers from clubs in Morocco and Saudi Arabia to join the ‘best club in Africa’ in Amakhosi.
The Serbian frontman striker made the switch from Slovakian side FK Pohronie as Chiefs look to rebuild their side after a underwhelming 2018-19 campaign.
The 27-year-old played 28 games where he scored 23 goals and bagged five assists, while the season before he played 20 games scoring 16 goals which attracted interest from clubs from all over the world.
The new Chiefs striker admitted to the media that he was holding out for the right offer and when he got the call from Chiefs he couldn’t say no.
‘It was [an] agent from Croatia, but honestly I was waiting for a good offer because I have amazing season behind me, not one but two,’ said the forward.
‘I was waiting for good offers and there were good offers from Morocco and from Saudi Arabia. I was waiting and I told myself that something good is going to come, and then this agent called me and told me that one club from South Africa is interested in me.
‘When I found out that it’s Kaizer Chiefs I was happy, I was really happy. It’s the best club in Africa. I did not know a lot about South African football, but I knew Kaizer Chiefs.
‘I heard about South Africa for the first time during the 2010 World Cup when Serbia was here and I saw a lot of good stadiums.’
