Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurković is delighted to have scored his first goal for Amakhosi after opening his account against SuperSport United over the weekend.

Nurkovic became the first Serbian player to score a goal for Amakhosi in an official game after bagging the opener during their 1-1 draw with SuperSport at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The stalemate moved Chiefs back to the top of the Absa Premiership standings with seven points, while SuperSport dropped down to ninth place with four points after three games played.

The 27-year-old is happy to have opened his goal-scoring account for Amakhosi and is looking forward to add to his tally in the games to come.

‘It was very important for me to have scored against SuperSport. Every striker who comes to a new team knows the value and importance of scoring their first goal, and you need to get it as soon as possible to be ready for the next games. I am happy to have gotten my first goal and I now look at what is ahead of us,’ Nurkovic told his club’s official website.

‘When the ball was in the box, I tried to see if any of my teammates were in a better position to score.

‘I did not see any other solution and I just looked to see where the goalkeeper was and I just tried to lob the goalkeeper and everything worked out. I also thought that if the ball goes past the goalkeeper someone might be lurking behind him who could have touched the ball over the line. In the end, I was happy with the outcome. It is always nice to score.’

The Amakhosi striker also heaped praise on the Chiefs faithful for their support throughout the game: ‘We have amazing fans; everyone wants to celebrate with us, and our fans very are very good. The club and everything is of the highest level. Without the fans it would not be possible for us to be successful and they have been very good for me and the team,’ Nurković said.

He added that he is adapting well to life in South Africa and at Amakhosi since joining the club from Serbian outfit KFC Komarno.

‘I’ve settled very well. Everything is good. Apart from football, the food amazing, the people are very good and kind, my teammates have helped me settle and adapt. On the football side, the coach is doing a good job and we as a team are developing well as a unit,’ he explained.

The Serbian striker is also relishing the chance to take on Cape Town City at Newlands Stadium on Tuesday evening.

‘Our focus now is very much on Tuesday and our next game against Cape Town City. We respect every opponent but we have our way, which is the way of winning. We don’t want to stop here,’ he concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs against Cape Town City kicks off at 7:30pm.
