Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic believes Amakhosi will be strong contenders for the Absa Premiership title if they can maintain their current form.
The 27-year-old player has joined the Soweto giants from Slovakian club FKC Komarno after he had a successful campaign in front of goal, finding the back of the net 23 times with his previous club.
However, Nurkovic has made a great start to life at Amakhosi. His fine form for the Glamour Boys bagged him his first league goal during their 1-1 draw with SuperSport United on 24 August.
‘I think the league has a lot of quality players but if we play as we did in the first four games as a team then we can be very strong [contenders],’ Nurkovic told the media on Wednesday.
The Serbian striker says he enjoys playing alongside his fellow attackers Lebogang Manyama, Khama Billiat, Bernard Parker and Lazarous Kambole.
‘I am enjoying every moment – off the pitch and on the pitch – even at training. All of them are great players. I mean Lebogang [Manyama], [Bernard] Parker, [Khama] Billiat and everybody; Kambole also. I’ve just been here for two months but it’s getting better and better,’ he added.
Nurkovic, who already has a goal and an assist, added that he will not be drawn into how many goals he wants to score for Amakhosi this season as he is focused on contributing to the team’s success.
‘Every striker wants to score goals and I’m trying my best in every game. As long as I’m there, playing good and creating the chances. For me, it doesn’t matter who scores the goals as long as we have the three goals,’ Nurkovic concluded.
