Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has confirmed that the new Buccaneers head coach will be announced next week Monday.
The Buccaneers have been without a head coach since the departure of Muhsin Ertugral in November last year. Long-serving Pirates coach Augusto Palacios was announced as the club’s interim coach but has not been able to get to grips with the demands of the PSL.
Ertugral parted ways with the Soweto giants following their humiliating 6-1 defeat against SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership last year November.
The Buccaneers chairman has now revealed that the club are expected to appoint a new coach next week following their 6-0 thumping against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
‘Next week Monday we will be announcing a new coach. We were restricted to do so in January by prohibitive Buy-out Clauses,’ Dr Khoza said on Monday.
‘It’s not easy to find a coach for the club, and even less so when people you are looking for are held by contract obligations.
‘The coach we were looking for, that we promised to announce in January is now available in May. We won’t wait that long.’
Orlando Pirates will be hoping to bounce back when they host high-flying Bidvest Wits in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
The match at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
