Bernard Parker has shared some of the factors behind Kaizer Chiefs’ poor showing this season in addition to revealing how he has helped teammate Ryan Moon improve his game.

The Glamour Boys endured their third successive season without silverware, which was made worse by scenes of fan violence at the FNB and Moses Mabhida Stadiums respectively – subsequently resulting in the departure of coach Steve Komphela.

Former Bafana Bafana international Parker was the club’s top-scorer with six goals in 20 appearances and the man known as ‘Die Hond’ says that the club is currently undergoing a transition.

‘It’s not quite easy for a big team to make a transition and expect results so soon,’ he said at the monthly PSL awards.

‘And the youngsters came through and played their part under the supervision of the seniors, who helped them in a lot of ways.

‘Ryan Moon can’t stop thanking me for how much I’ve helped him in his game, and he has been scoring goals – [Dumisani] Zuma as well.

‘I’m mentoring them and pushing them for the best of the club, when I’m not playing,’ he added.

Parker, also explained how he is using his experience to guide the youngsters in the team.

‘When I am playing, I’m leading by example and showing them through my efforts and hard work, and I also get on the scoring sheet.

‘With my injuries and not getting much game-time, I ended up scoring the most.

‘But I wouldn’t brag about it because it’s just six goals – but that’s the most in the whole team,’ he said.
