Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker admits he was disappointed with his side’s inability to finish against Free State Stars on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys were forced to endure their 12th draw of the season after playing out to a 1-1 draw against Ea Lla Koto at the Mbombela Stadium when Daniel Cardoso cancelled out Sibusiso Hlubi’s 53rd minute opener.

The draw sees Amakhosi remain seventh on the Absa Premiership standings with 39 points, trailing log leaders Orlando Pirates by 15 points, with one game left to play until the end of the season.

‘We wanted to win,’ Parker told his club’s official website. ‘We played a pressing game high up the field, trying to find space to create opportunities.

‘We came close on several occasions when we caught them on a counter-attack, but our finishing was not the best.’

The veteran striker has urged his side to finish on a positive note as they take on Chippa United in their final game of the season, which he believes will give him confidence heading into the Nedbank Cup final against National First Division (NFD) side TS Galaxy.

‘We suffered a lapse in concentration and gifted them a goal,’ he added. ‘Credit to my teammates though. We didn’t give up. We got the equaliser, and accordingly, we continued to press them looking for the winner, but the result didn’t go our way.

‘It is done and dusted now. We will take the positives from this game towards the next, which is an important match against Chippa United.

‘We want to finish the season on a high. Chippa will be desperate for points to stay in the league, while we want to consolidate a top-eight finish. We have to win the game to boost our confidence ahead of the Nedbank Cup Final.’
