Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret admits that Bidvest Wits were better than his side on the night, following their 1-0 loss to the Clever Boys on Thursday night.

Substitute Cuthbert Malajila’s second-half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides at the Bidvest Stadium, and the Mayfair-based outfit’s mentor says ‘it was one of those nights’, citing Gavin Hunt’s side’s superiority in all aspects of the field.

‘Sometimes you have to admit that the other team was a little bit better, and this was one of the nights,’ he said in post-match comments.

‘I’m a little sad in the first half, that we didn’t take the chance. We are not a team who’s going to play a lot of long balls.

‘I think Bidvest were better in almost every part of the game. I don’t think we had one corner.

‘We have to go home and train and fight because we want to be like Bidvest and a few other teams, but we have chance to get revenge on Sunday. Hopefully we can do something good against Sundowns,’ he concluded.

The result sees Pirates remain in eighth spot on the table, while Wits move three points clear at the top of the table, following their win against Jonevret’s side.

The Soweto giants will look to solidify their top eight spot with victory against title hopefuls Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday in their Absa Premiership encounter, which is set for 15:00 at the Orlando Stadium.
