Orlando Pirates picked up their seventh draw in 13 league games after the Sea Robbers were held to a goalless stalemate by Baroka at the Orlando Stadium on Thursday night.
Pirates were looking to make it back-to-back wins heading into the game after last week’s comfortable 3-0 win over Stellenbosch.
The Soweto giants started on the front foot and, after a tight opening 15 minutes, the game surged as Deon Hotto had a golden chance to open the scoring when he rounded goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke after getting on the end of a through ball, but the Namibia winger failed to hit target with the net gaping.
It was all the home side in the opening stanza, and they missed another big chance with 30 minutes gone as Kwame Peprah was picked out in the box by a pinpoint Fortune Makaringe cross, but his glancing header flew just over the crossbar.
Baroka managed to hang on but were providing little threat to the Pirates goal as the sides went into the break level.
The away side came close to opening the scoring five minutes into the second half, when a floated free kick into the box by Nhlanhla Mgaga’s was misjudged by Pirates keeper Siyabonga Mpontshane, with the cross flying over him and hitting the cross bar.
Pirates were reduced to taking efforts from range, with Linda Mntambo and Deon Hotto letting fly but to no avail.
The longer the game continued the more destined it looked for a draw as both sides lacked the cutting edge to find a winner and were thus forced to settle for a point a piece.
