Orlando Pirates woes continued as they failed to break down a stubborn Platinum Stars defence at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday.
Both sides entered the encounter in the bottom half of the table, but it was Pirates who kicked off the PSL encounter desperately needing three points to get the second half of the season off to a good start.
A goalless draw therefore did little for either cause, but Dikwena coach Cavin Johnson will be slightly more pleased after seeing his side hold one of the PSL’s traditional giants at bay.
Thabo Matlaba had the best chance to win the game in the final 15 minutes, but he fired into the side netting with Tendai Ndoro screaming for the ball to be played square with the goal at his mercy.
Despite many weeks off, both sides will have plenty of work to do on their shooting, with just four shots from 16 on target, combined with a night that will be remembered for what might have been and not for what transpired.
SuperSport United smashed Golden Arrows 5-2 after a goalless first half. Thuso Phala opened the scoring before Reneilwe Lestholonyane made it two nil when Thabo Mnyamane missed a spot kick. Mahachi pulled one back, but Msowoya scored an own goal before Cole Alexander scored for Matsatsantsa. Larato Lamola scored Arrows’ second before Morgan Gould made it five for Stuar Baxter’s table toppers.
Themba Zwane was the star at both ends as he scored and then cleared a chance off his line to help Sundowns move up the table against Bloemfontein Celtic.
