Orlando Pirates assistant coach Fadlu Davids insists that the team will be looking to fine-tune their performance as they continue to prepare for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
The Buccaneers technical team has been hard at work trying to get the team ready for the start of the new campaign, which kicks off on 3 August 2019.
Pirates have already played one friendly match so far during the pre-season when they managed to secure a comfortable 4-0 victory over National First Division side TS Sporting, with goals coming from Vincent Pule, a brace by Luvuyo Memela and a goal from Kabelo Dlamini.
Davids confirmed that Pirates will be playing a number of friendly matches over the next couple of days as the new campaign draws closer.
He also added that they will use these friendlies to further assess the effectiveness of their ‘new tactical modifications’.
‘The objective of pre-season is to prepare the team and get them playing in a particular way. This is also an opportunity for us to try out some new things and assess the effectiveness of these new tactical modifications we have added,’ Davids told his club’s official website.
‘As for the results, this isn’t our priority for now because we are still working on a process but it is encouraging whenever a team is able to express itself with goals the way the boys did this past weekend.’
Following their comfortable victory over TS Sporting, the Soweto giants will now turn their attention to their next pre-season encounter against Nedbank Cup champions TS Galaxy.
‘We’re in a great football environment where the team can focus fully on the task at hand. We got some good information from the first friendly and looking to the next game, it’s all about small progressions and addressing the things we’ve picked up from the previous match,’ he added.
