Orlando Pirates look set to welcome back Luvuyo Memela, Ben Motshwari and Vincent Pule after overcoming their respective injuries during the Fifa break.
The break came at the perfect time for the Soweto giants who are on a six-game winless streak. The time away from competitive action would have left caretaker boss Rhulani Mokwena with much-needed time on the training pitch.
The 10-day international window also allowed the club to work on the fitness on a number of key players as they look to turn things around following a disastrous August.
‘We have a very competent strength-and-conditioning team and we have been making incredible progress towards rehabilitating our injured players,’ said Pirates physiotherapist John Williams on the club’s official website.
‘Of course, the Fifa break has helped in the sense that the risk of further injuries decreases because, barring one or two friendly matches, the physical demand on the players is reduced.
‘We are confident that we will be in a position to declare some, if not all, of the players medically cleared and ready to start training with the rest of the squad by the time the league resumes,’ he concluded.
